Day 27 after quitting vapingWhat the trials say helps
What's happening in your body
Research on how to stop vaping is young. The first randomised trials were published in 2021, and a Cochrane review, updated continuously, pools them. As of its 2025 edition two things had evidence behind them, both rated low certainty because the studies are few. Text message support programmes may help more young people stop than minimal support does.
The prescription medicine varenicline may help more adults stop than placebo. For nicotine patches and gum, the trials so far neither show a benefit nor rule one out.
What to expect
If you have come this far on your own, you are doing what most people do. If you are here on a second or third run, nothing in that evidence says the fault is yours. It says the tools are still being built. Needing more than one attempt is common with nicotine in any form.
Try this
If your runs keep ending around the same day, take that pattern to a doctor or a stop smoking service and ask about medication.
What else you could do
Asking for help with nicotine is an ordinary request, and stop smoking services increasingly see people who vape. The pattern in your Diary, which days and which situations, is exactly what makes that conversation useful. Take a screenshot of it.
