Day 22 after quitting vapingI don't vape
What's happening in your body
Vaping is often social. Devices get passed around a table, friends vape together, and nobody has to buy or light anything to join in. In lapse studies of smokers, other people using was one of the most reliable triggers, and an offered device adds a small social price to refusing. The largest trial of a quit-vaping programme recorded social influences to vape among the things that might shape the outcome, and the programme helped people regardless of them.
What to expect
Someone will offer. Someone may be slightly put out when you decline, because your quitting says something about their vaping that they did not ask to hear. Expect jokes and the friendly "one puff won't hurt". Most of it is about them, and it usually fades once your not vaping becomes old news. The hardest version is a partner or close friend who vapes, because then the cue lives in your home.
Try this
Settle your sentence in advance, "No thanks, I don't vape", and say it aloud once before you need it.
What else you could do
"I'm trying to quit" opens a negotiation and invites a kind offer of just one. "No thanks, I don't vape" closes it, and it is true as of today. The NHS advice is equally plain. Tell friends you have stopped and ask them not to vape in front of you. If one of them wants to stop as well, do it together. If you live with someone who vapes, agree where they do it and where the devices are kept.
