Day 23 after quitting smokingThe ledger

In shortThe money figure in the app is honest arithmetic from the numbers you entered, but the money is almost certainly not sitting anywhere. It stays theoretical until you move that amount into a separate account or an envelope.

What's happening in your body

The money figure on your home screen is arithmetic from numbers you entered, what you smoked and what a pack costs today. It has been growing every hour. It is also almost certainly not sitting anywhere. Money that stops being spent on one thing drains into everything else, a slightly bigger grocery bill, a few more coffees out, and at the end of the month it is invisible.

What to expect

A feeling that the number in the app is theoretical. It will stay theoretical until it exists somewhere outside the app. The figure is also an estimate. It is priced at what a pack costs today and built from the numbers you gave at the start, so if you smoked more or less than you said, it is off by the same amount. It is honest arithmetic, not a bank statement.

Try this

Move the amount shown today into a separate account or an envelope.

What else you could do

Set a weekly transfer for what a week of smoking used to cost you. Then give it a purpose that has nothing to do with being sensible. A sum with a name on it, a trip, a bike, a good chair, is harder to burn than a number on a screen. If money is tight and it goes on bills instead, that counts too. The point is to see where it went.
