Quit21 vs Quit Tracker: Stop Smoking
A side-by-side look at Quit21 and Quit Tracker: Stop Smoking, an Android app by despDev, using only what both apps and their developers say publicly. Checked on 31 October 2026. I make Quit21, so read it with that in mind. Where Quit Tracker is stronger, this page says so.
Side by side
| Feature | Quit21 | Quit Tracker: Stop Smoking |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | Android and iPhone | Android. The developer's site says an iOS version is "coming soon". |
| Price | Free, with a small banner ad | Free core, contains ads. A Premium version adds customisation and advanced widgets; its price is not published on the developer's site. |
| Popularity | New. On Google Play since October 2026, so few ratings. | Over 5 million downloads and a 4.8 rating from about 181,000 reviews on Google Play. |
| What you can quit | Cigarettes, heated tobacco and vaping, each with its own arithmetic | Smoking. Its listing and site speak only of cigarettes; no vape or heated-tobacco track is described. |
| Daily guidance | A text for every stage: 20 minutes, 8 hours, days 1 to 30, 3 months, 9 months and 1 year. Written separately for smoking and vaping, each with named sources. | A health-improvements timeline of body recovery milestones, which the developer says is based on WHO data and medical research. |
| After a slip | A slip subtracts only what was smoked. Totals, medals and pages already read are kept, and the day count restarts. | A reset button that keeps trophies and savings, according to the developer's FAQ. |
| Help with a craving | SOS: your own reasons and a one-minute paced-breathing exercise, then a note of what set it off. | A matching-pairs card game meant to carry you through the first minutes of a craving. |
| Diary and triggers | A daily diary, a log of triggers and a view of when cravings come. | A diary for mood and triggers. |
| Money and goals | Money saved, cigarettes not smoked, a piggy bank for something you are saving towards, and 29 medals. | Money saved, cigarettes not smoked, life regained, trophies and personal rewards you set yourself. |
| Widget | Home-screen widget | Home-screen widgets, with advanced ones in Premium. |
| App lock | None | Biometric lock |
| Backup and export | Relies on the phone's own backup. No export. | Backup and restore, and an export of your data for a doctor. |
| Account | None | None. A pharmacist's review on Healthify NZ notes there is no login. |
| Your data | Stays on the phone and is never sent to the developer. The banner ad is served by Google AdMob, which collects device information such as the advertising ID and an approximate location. You can delete everything in Settings. | The developer's site says data is stored locally. The Google Play listing's Data safety section lists location, financial info and three other types as possibly collected, location, app activity and two other types as possibly shared, and says data can't be deleted. The listing does not say which of these come from advertising. |
| Outside review | None. Quit21 is not a medical device and its texts have not had a medical review. | Rated 4 out of 5 by a pharmacist on Healthify NZ (February 2026, version 2.31): well suited to people already committed to quitting, with limited behavioural content and no professional support. |
Where Quit Tracker is stronger
- It has a long track record: over 5 million downloads and a 4.8 rating from about 181,000 reviews. Quit21 is new and has very few ratings.
- Its free version covers the core: timer, health statistics, money calculator and basic achievements.
- It has extras Quit21 does not: a craving game, a biometric lock, backup and restore, and an export for your doctor.
- A pharmacist's independent review is published on Healthify NZ. Quit21 has none.
Where Quit21 is different
- It runs on iPhone as well as Android. Quit Tracker is Android only for now.
- It covers vaping and heated tobacco as well as cigarettes, and never converts a vape into an invented "cigarette equivalent".
- It explains the day. Each morning there is a page about what is happening in your body, what to expect and one thing to try, with sources named at the bottom.
- A slip subtracts only what was smoked, and the totals you earned stay.
- There is no account, and your diary, slips and reasons stay on the phone and are never passed to the advertising code.
Which one to choose
- Choose Quit Tracker if you are on Android, want a proven free tracker, and like extras such as a lock, backups and a game for cravings.
- Choose Quit21 if you are on iPhone, you are quitting a vape or heated tobacco, or you want each day explained rather than only counted.
- Use both if you want a tracker with a lock and backup alongside a daily explanation. They do not conflict.
